Block fee and uninsured services

One simple annual fee covering a set list of services that OHIP does not cover. You can also pay for each service when you need it. The choice is yours and will never affect the care you receive.

OHIP-insured care is always free

You never pay for services OHIP covers, such as visits for a health problem and referrals to a specialist.

The block fee is optional

You can become a patient or stay a patient without paying it. Our clinics will never refuse or delay your care.

Pay as you go instead

Without the block fee, you pay for each uninsured service when you get it.

How it works

Think about what you need

Look at the uninsured services you needed in the past and may need this year. The block fee may cost more or less than paying for each service.

Ask at your clinic

To pay the block fee, ask at your clinic. The clinic will give you the offer in writing, and you will confirm your choice in writing.

Change your mind within 1 week

If you change your mind within 1 week, the clinic will refund the block fee, then charge you for any uninsured services you got during that week.

Questions about fees?

Please ask your clinic. Your physician can also answer your questions. To learn more about your rights, read the CPSO’s information on uninsured services and block fees.
